ONYX OBJECTIVES

CULTURAL SHIFT

Onyx works to shift how money is understood and discussed by fostering shared values of freedom, communication, community, compassion, and perseverance. Through guided learning and shared experience, wealth creation becomes visible, attainable, and collectively reinforced.

FINANCIAL CONFIDENCE

Onyx created psychologically safe learning environments that normalize asking questions, learning over time, and accountability. This approach helps individuals build confidence, challenge limiting beliefs, and strengthen their ability to make informed financial decisions across life stages.

INTERGENERATIONAL EXCHANGE

Onyx intentionally connects young adults, the sandwich generation, and older adults to share lived experience, perspective, and practical wisdom. This exchange strengthens communal learning and supports wealth building across the age and experience spectrum.

SUSTAINED OUTCOMES

Onyx moves beyond one time education by emphasizing application, reflection, and follow through. Learning is paired with goal setting, peer support, and ongoing engagement to support lasting financial behavior change.

SCALABLE IMPACT

Onyx extends impact beyond individual learning by partnering with organizations and leveraging shared systems and tools. This approach allows community knowledge to inform broader programs while maintaining a people centered learning experience.

SUCCESS STORIES

Grace

I have known many of the members of Onyx for years serving as my academic mentors, advisors, and personal champions in my academic and professional life. So when, during an Onyx session on real estate investment, they suggested I purchase a house, I seriously considered the suggestion even though I had never before considered this for myself. Not only did they answer all my questions as I navigated purchasing for myself, they also provided much-needed emotional support and personal perspectives as I navigated the process as a single, young, first-time home buyer. From choosing between building new versus buying to comparing interest rates, I was fully supported by Onyx. Today, as I sit in first home, thankful for my elders in Onyx who take seriously the task of financial education and mentorship, I feel especially blessed.

The caliber and spirit of the Onyx membership is palpable. When I needed a co-founder to pursue an exciting business opportunity, I'd already built relationships within the Onyx community, allowing us to act quickly on the new endeavor. We'd met through the Sunday Sessions and were quick to discover our shared entrepreneurial spirit. Today, we have a strong partnership that began with our appreciation for Onyx's values of trust, communication and perseverance.

Through Onyx my husband and I talked with another member about her experience inheriting wealth and becoming an estate trustee. Although we had a comprehensive estate plan, we realized our generation's habit of not discussing estate planning matters with children could cause the very stress we were trying to avoid. The conversation helped us understand how difficult it can be to learn to how to manage assets and work with financial and legal professionals while dealing with the emotional pain of losing your parents. As a result we are working with our daughter and her husband now so they will be ready when the time comes.

CONRAD

The information and conversations that Onyx provides have been invaluable. As a young person without a finance background, taxes & their implications have always been murky. One member led a session on tax preparation that helped me understand the penalties and the benefits of filing timely and consistently.

OUR FOUNDING STORY

Since its start in September 2020, Onyx Black Wealth Collective has grown from a meeting with four people to a strong network of over 650 people who are focused on achieving true freedom for Black people through wealth-building for their families and communities.
